Senate Republicans Turn Their Backs on Families, Block Right to IVF Treatment

Wilmington, Del. —  Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester released the following statement in response to Senate Republicans yesterday blocking the Right to IVF Act — a critical piece of legislation that would have ensured nationwide access to IVF and made the procedure more affordable for families who need it:

“This vote is not just a legislative setback; it’s a direct attack on the reproductive freedom and rights of women and families across this country.

“Let’s be clear: This is the world that Donald Trump and extreme Republicans have created — a world where women are denied the ability to make personal medical decisions, where families are robbed of their chance to grow, and where women are dying because of extreme, draconian laws that prioritize political ideology over human lives — women like Amber Thurman, a young mother, who died of sepsis after being denied medical care due to Georgia’s cruel abortion ban.

“And if Donald Trump is elected in November, and the Project 2025 agenda is enacted, more women will suffer and more families will be devastated. Make no mistake; this is the dystopian future Republicans envision under Trump — one where women have fewer rights over their own bodies, and their lives are put at even greater risk.”
