Congresswoman-elect Blunt Rochester Announces Senior Staff Appointments
Wilmington, DE — Congresswoman-elect Lisa Blunt Rochester announced the appointment of Minh Ta as her Chief of Staff.
Ta has served in senior roles for two Members of Congress. Most recently as Chief of Staff to Congresswoman Gwen Moore (D-WI), a senior member of the House Financial Services Committee and the Ranking Member of the Monetary Policy and Trade Subcommittee. In this capacity, Ta was the chief political and policy adviser and managed offices in Washington D.C. and Milwaukee. Before joining Rep. Moore’s staff in 2011, Ta served as the Legislative Director for Congressman Keith Ellison (D-MN), also a member of the Financial Services Committee, for over four years. Ta holds a Masters in Public Administration from Harvard University John F. Kennedy School of Government and is a native of Philadelphia.
“I’m thrilled that Minh has agreed to join our team. His expertise in policy and the legislative process coupled with his political prowess make him an asset to me and to the people I’ll be privileged to represent,” Blunt Rochester said. “His experience and in-depth knowledge of Capitol Hill will help me successfully navigate Congress's tough environment.”
Congresswoman-elect Blunt Rochester also announced that Sylvia Banks, a former DuPont executive and tireless community advocate, will serve as State Director.
“It is critically important that I have strong leaders in both my D.C. and state offices in order to advance a Delaware agenda of strengthening our economy, expanding opportunity, and bringing people together," Blunt Rochester said. "I'm honored to have someone with Sylvia's talent and professional experience on my team. Sylvia is not only my trusted advisor, she's respected across Delaware, having served in various leadership roles in the corporate and non-profit sectors. Her passion and commitment to serving our communities and ability to act as a bridge will be critically important to our work to make Delaware a better place for generations to come."
Banks, a 30-year resident of Delaware, was formerly Manager of the Corporate Contributions Program for the DuPont Company. She is a native of Washington, D.C. and attended Howard University. Banks was a Founding Trustee of the Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League and has served on the Board of Directors of the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce and the Delaware Grantmakers Association. She was also Board Chair of the Wilmington Renaissance Corporation and a member of the Henrietta Johnson Medical Center Advisory Committee.
"Lisa ran a campaign focused on expanding opportunity for everyone and she has taken a great step toward fulfilling that goal by appointing Minh and Sylvia, two people whose intellect, background and commitment to public service will be central to those efforts," Fred Sears, former President and CEO of the Delaware Community Foundation said. "During my 13 years with the Delaware Community Foundation, I had the opportunity to work closely with Sylvia in her role with the Delaware Grantmakers Association and I've thought highly of her ever since. Her commitment to understanding and determining the needs of her community is essential to running a state office. She'll be an incredible asset to Lisa and will play an integral role in helping our Congresswoman serve the people of Delaware."
