Delivering for Delaware: Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester Meets with Black Small Business Owners, Grassroots Supporters in Sussex

Delaware — Last week, Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester took her “Delivering for Delaware” tour on the road again, first hosting a Black small business meet and greet in Middletown in honor of National Black Small Business Month.

“Small businesses are the lifeblood of our communities. However, there’s still much more that needs to be done to address the disparities in access to capital and resources, which continue to be a barrier for many Black entrepreneurs,” said Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester. “This isn’t just about building our communities, it’s about promoting equity and opportunity, empowering people, and economic development. I am committed to building a stronger, more equitable economic landscape to ensure that Delaware remains a place where all small businesses, including those owned by Black entrepreneurs, have the opportunity to succeed and flourish.

Blunt Rochester, co-chair of the Future of Work Task Force and founder of the Congressional Future of Work Caucus, held this meet and greet and listening session with the New Castle County Chamber of Commerce, the Delaware Black Chamber of Commerce, and Black small business owners throughout the state. The event addressed many issues Black business owners face, including disparities in access to capital and resources, increased business costs, and student loan debt.

Following the meet and greet, the Congresswoman gave remarks at the Eastern Sussex Democratic Party monthly meeting. She discussed what is at stake in this election — from good-paying jobs to climate protections to reproductive freedom — and what she plans to do in the Senate.

“This moment is about working like we’ve never worked before because we know what’s on the line — clean drinking water is on the line. The planet is on the line. Our safety is on the line. In the Senate, I’m going to continue to do the work we’ve done for jobs, the economy and supply chains, [and] our reproductive freedom,” said Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester.
