Chicago, Il. — Today, Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester was in Chicago for the Democratic National Convention. Blunt Rochester spoke about her close personal relationship with President Joe Biden — who she has known for over 30 years and whose campaign she co-chaired in 2020 — and the urgency of electing his Vice President, Kamala Harris, in November. The Congresswoman, also a co-chair for the Harris-Walz campaign, spoke to the excitement here in Chicago.
“There is truly an electricity here in Chicago for our convention,” said Congresswoman Blunt Rochester this morning.

“I don’t think anybody could have predicted how important and consequential [Joe Biden’s] administration would be.
“In one administration, in one term, he’s done more than some presidents do in two. And so to me, the decision that he made was the same as when he decided to run in the first place: focused on the American people. What is best for the American people? What is best for the future of this country? And again, I’m so proud of who he is.”

“As a Delawarean who has known him for much of my life — over 30 years — I first am just so proud of the person and public servant that he is. I’ve known him in both aspects: as a public servant, serving our state as our senator, as our vice president […] and now president. He’s made us very proud.

“[We have] see[n] him deliver more in one term, than some presidents do in two terms, for the American people. And now, as we move forward, tonight, we will talk about his legacy. But also we’ll talk about Kamala Harris and making sure that our country — our democracy — perseveres.

“We had so many great candidates, but Kamala was smart. Kamala had served and governed. She was vetted, she was tested, but she also had this quality that none of us could pick, only [Joe Biden] could pick — that was to be simpatico [with him. She was] the person who would work well with him. And that’s what Tim Walz is for Kamala Harris. And so we’re very, very excited about it.”
