Delivering for Delaware: Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester Hosts Black Barbershop Conversation

Wilmington, Del.— In case you missed it, DETV highlighted Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester’s recent barbershop conversation with Congressman Gregory Meeks, Black barbers, and community leaders as part of her statewide “Delivering for Delaware” tour that launched this summer. The discussions underscored her commitment to protecting democracy, promoting economic opportunity, growing the middle class, and ensuring every Delawarean’s voice is heard in the Senate.

On her Delivering for Delaware tour:

  • “Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester led a productive discussion with area barbershop owners and community leaders at Phat Cuts Hairstyling, a downtown Wilmington hair salon, on Monday as part of her “Delivering for Delaware” tour.

“The candidate for U.S. Senate has been meeting with groups up and down the First State to elicit feedback from residents and highlight her accomplishments in her eight years as a U.S. Congresswoman. Blunt Rochester said a barbershop was an ideal spot to meet and discuss issues with sometimes overlooked segments of the community — African American men.”

Blunt Rochester on why Black male voter outreach is an integral part of her U.S. Senate campaign:

  • “Barbershops, a lot of times, are where people congregate and get information, and so number one is to hear some of the customers, what they think and feel […], what their needs are as we’re building a platform, as we run for the Senate. But then the second piece of it is they’re entrepreneurs. You know, these are small business owners themselves, so they’re able to share some of the challenges that they have, but also some of the successes. So today is really about hearing from them so that we can do a good job, but also sharing some of the accomplishments we’ve been able to do in the House. The barbershop, to me, was the place to hear, to share, and really help us as we continue to deliver for Delaware.”
