Comprehensive Plan Aims to Enhance Health Care, Job Opportunities, and Support for Delaware’s Military Families and Veterans

Wilmington, Del. —  This week, Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester released her plan to support service members and veterans. The plan, first released by MeidasTouch, highlights the Congresswoman’s commitment to uplifting the health and well-being of the veteran community, improving their quality of life through jobs, housing, and respect, and investing in military children and the next generation of servicemembers.

Highlights:

• “When I started having these roundtable discussions in my state focused on delivering for Delaware, but specifically for veterans, one of the things that became very clear is that it is not enough for us to say ‘thank you for your service.’ We’ve got to do something about it. We’ve got to make sure that we are supporting all that [veterans have] given for our country, and not just our country, for the world. And so for me, it was an honor to just make sure that we had a plan that focused on ‘where do we go in the future?’ 
• “We have some people who say that they’re patriotic and that they support this country and that they support our veterans, but don’t walk the talk. And then you have Kamala Harris. You have our Senate Democrats who are really bent on making sure that we uplift our veterans, our service members. And, so for me, [releasing this plan] as part of our delivering for Delaware tour […] was a no brainer. [It] was one of the most important plans of our tour. We’ve talked to small business owners, some who were veterans. We’ve had round tables on housing and returning citizens. […] There’s an intersection with veterans on almost every single issue that we talk about — health care, reproductive freedom, there’s that intersection.”
• “When [veterans] serve our country, they should be able to come home and have opportunity. And that, again, is part of the vision that we see.”

Blunt Rochester’s full veteran’s plan can be found here. It was listening to veterans and service members across the state that inspired the Congresswoman to develop the plan. As part of her “Delivering for Delaware” tour, the Congresswoman has met with veterans about the issues they face every day — from housing insecurity to struggles with mental health and physical disabilities. These issues have common sense, bipartisan solutions and as Delaware’s next Senator, she will continue working to eliminate these challenges for our veteran communities.
